Summary
A hackathon to show how to develop AI-based
digital services with less energy-intensive algorithms and to support the
ecological transition. The themes chosen for this hackathon are: -
classification of regions at risk of forest fires; - recognition of fake news
on ecology; - detection of illegal deforestation. The themes will explore the
3 aspects of AI: text, image and video analysis.
The editorial perspective
This initiative aims to demonstrate that AI algorithms can be less energy-intensive and, most importantly, that AI can truly serve ecological transition efforts.
When the winners are announced, it will be interesting to analyze the technical solutions chosen and compare the energy cost vs. the ecological transition benefits.
This hackathon is co-organized by Data For Good, an association committed to using digital technology to tackle environmental and social challenges. The event is part of the AI Action Summit, organized by the French government (Elysée), promoting AI development in general.
The results will be announced on February 10–11 at the AI Action Summit (Grand Palais, Paris).
In brief, the editorial perspective
The most
- An initiative to highlight frugal AI to an AI community not necessarily aware of these issues
- A challenge open to interdisciplinary teams
- A full commitment with proposed topics serving ecological transition
The least
- Visibility and recognition of the challenge within the AI Action Summit need to be demonstrated to ensure that this Hackathon is not just a showcase in an ocean of AI
- Attention, the resource is only available in English
