Workshop/Project

The AI battle

Edited by :
Latitudes

Summary

A collaborative and engaging workshop to develop critical thinking on generative AI

The workshop is based on active learning methods, helping participants explore five key challenges of generative AI:

1 - Information reliability

2 - Society and personal data

3 - Creativity and intellectual property

4 - Algorithmic biases

5 - Environmental impact

The workshop is structured into three phases:

1 - Revisiting key dates in AI development

2 - Debating the five major challenges of generative AI

3 - Imagining future scenarios for AI development

Through this initiative, Latitudes aims to raise awareness among as many people as possible about the challenges of AI. The workshop is intended for both complete beginners and those already involved in projects related to the development of these technologies.

In the summer of 2024, Latitudes made a significant update to the content based on various sources. The organization annotated discussion cards on the water impact of generative AI, its impact on democracy, and created new scenarios tailored to more specific professional issues. Previously, the scenarios were mainly aimed at the general public.

Latitudes also added best-practice cards, which are sent to participants by email after the workshop.

Soon, the cards will be made available on the website so that anyone who wants to use them can do so. A usage license is still required to help support Latitudes’ economic model.

To date, over 7,000 participants have taken part in La Bataille de l’IA through more than 400 workshops.

The editorial perspective

Latitudes is a prominent association specializing in digital awareness. Among its projects, it previously launched "La Bataille de la Tech", a game that achieved great success and was widely supported by facilitators engaged with the organization.

"La Bataille de l’IA" aims to bring AI-related issues to all sectors of society and businesses, fostering critical thinking on the topic. It is a brilliant concept, empowering individuals to form educated opinions on AI-related challenges.

Through knowledge, the development of new solutions and uses that result can become more sustainable.

In brief, the editorial perspective

The most

  • A relatively short workshop (2h)
  • A participatory and dynamic format
  • A format already proven with "La Bataille de la Tech"
  • A workshop accessible to a wide audience
  • A workshop that is regularly updated to reflect the latest known data on AI’s impact
  • A workshop that also targets companies by offering scenarios tailored to their specific challenges

The least

  • A generalist workshop that may not convince more technical profiles
  • A key challenge is keeping the cards regularly updated, given the rapid evolution of both AI technologies and their uses. This is a challenge the organization seems to be addressing, notably through a recent update (summer 2024).
